berry picking ~ mixed media, 5.5 X 8.5 inches
Picking wild berries is one of my most vivid memories from my childhood summer vacations in the Maritimes. I really don't think I was all that helpful though. But, the smell of jam cooking on the stove is still one of my favourites. And of course, the trick is to get the berries before the birds do.
MATERIALS: A salvaged book cover is the substrate of this piece. A fragment of a vintage pink bank statement appears on the top left and right corners. Beautiful handwritten ephemera frames the top and bottom, with the words "herds and flocks" visible. Washes of cream paint form a top layer.
This piece could be propped up on a shelf, supported by a rock or a seashell. It could also be set on a mini easel (readily and inexpensively available at craft stores) or framed. Some slight warping may be present as the substrate is a vintage book. This piece is finished with a matte varnish to ensure protection against fading, discolouration, and moisture. Avoid placing all artwork in direct sunlight.
