awakening ~ mixed media collage, 11X5.5 inches
wild sings the bird of the heart
in the forests of our lives.
~ Mary Oliver
'awakening' is about those moments of awareness, as when one slowly emerges from sleep, or wintering, to hear the birds singing.
Materials: Based on reclaimed wood, 'awakening' has layers of floral paper that have been aged. If you look closely, a butterfly is visible behind the bird.
In keeping with the salvaged wood substrate, the sides are unfinished, with bits of paper and paint drips visible. This piece can be hung, but it is solid wood, so it's probably better displayed on a bookshelf, mantle, or table. If you wish to hang it, adhesive strips (e.g., 3M) will likely work best. Signed on the back, this piece is finished with a matte varnish to ensure protection against fading, discolouration, and moisture. Avoid placing all artwork in direct sunlight.
